Earth Month - Little Green Books Review and Giveaway

CLOSED

My daughter LOVES to read.  Loves.  She's in kindergarten and her favorite books are chapter books.  Junie B. Jones, Absolutely Lucy, Ramona Quimby...it doesn't matter, as long as it has words, and lots of 'em.  Little Lou was extremely excited, therefore, when we opened the package from Little Green Books and found not one but FIVE books!  (I don't think she was as excited as I was, though!)

I want to make an impact, not just on the world around me, but on my own three munchkins as well.  You see, they've been entrusted to me for a time.  While I have them, I'd like to show them how to best use the resources available.  Little Green Books makes teaching kids about conservation a little bit easier for parents!

As I mentioned, we were send five books.  Since I have everything from a not-quite toddler to a chapter book reading lunatic kindergartener, I received a variety pack, of sorts.  For Stinky, we got Little Monkey.

Little Monkey is a cute little 50% recycled Polartec fleece book about (surprise!) a monkey.  The book is completely washable, which makes it perfect since my littlest monkey is teething BIG time.  He loves to look at the pictures in the book, but his favorite thing to do with it is to put in on his head like a hat.  (I wish I had a picture of that!)  See...even babies like to "re-purpose" things!

For Little Lou (again, 5 years old), we received Easy to Be Green.

Easy to Be Green is a really neat activity book for "older kids" (ages 4-8).  It's written on 100% recycled paper using vegetable-based ink!  The book is absolutely full of ideas and activities that kids can do to help save the Earth.  I LOVE that there are dot to dots and mazes and "educational" activities along with the useful ideas of how to change the world.  I think this would be an excellent book for a homeschooling family to use in science classes!  I can already think of some friends who I will be suggesting this one to!

And finally, we received three books that, although board books, are more of "universal" books at my house. I can't classify them for any specific child because, honestly, all three of them love board books...as so does their mommy!  We were sent What do you See? which is a really cute lift-a-flap guessing game book,

My First Garden, a neat little basket-shaped book about things we can grow ourselves,

and This is Our World, a puzzle book with pieces that come off of the pages and form actual puzzles!

I like to use this book, in particular, when talking about how everyone needs to pitch in and help.  Since Little Lou is pretty good at puzzles but Bugsy isn't, they have to work together to finish the puzzles!  I like showing that that, just like with the puzzles, we have to work together to make the world a "greener" place!

I LOVE my Little Green Books!  The more I read them, the more they grow on me.  I love the website, too! Whether you own any Little Green Books or not, you can go to their website and play games, find tips, learn more about recycling, and so much more!  There are parent and teacher pages.  I could go on all day.  I love Little Green Books!

You can visit Little Green Books to see the full line of books and retailers!  While you're there, check out all the other great site features!

Little Green Books is so devoted to teaching kids about greener living through their books, that they've agreed to send books to THREE of my lucky winners!  That's right!

One luck Grand Prize Winner will receive a copy of EACH of the books I received!  That's five books!
One second prize winner will receive their choice of THREE of the books I received!
And one lucky third prize winner will get to choose any ONE of the books I received!

(Contest will end and a winner will be drawn April 22, 2011 at 11:59am EST.)
